PaaV Podcast #2

Direct Download: Paav2.2.mp3

Podcast #2 is alive! Thanks for all the nice comments and encouragement, we really appreciate it and dork out about every single email. It was a great Otalia week, and we hope you’ll enjoy the podcast half as much as we enjoyed recording it.

Runtime: 1:58

Notes for the week:

- Here's the link to the Frank/Olivia/Buzz love triangle Liz mentioned. Seriously worth checking out for some insight into the history of Olivia’s love life.

- We’ll be doing our “one word to describe the week” from here on out. Share your word for the week with us in the comments. Liz wants to know!

- Dani has been unable to locate an actual age for the character of AC Mallet, but Robert Bogue is 44 years old and Mandy Bruno is 27 years old. Also, Mallet is Marina’s Godfather. Just putting that out there.

- We have our own new shiny email addresses. Admin@pancakesandavalium.com will go to us both, or you can e-mail Liz@pancakesandavalium.com or Dani@pancakesandavalium.com. We’re whores for email, so feel free.

- Link to The Red Room Guiding Light Project mentioned by Liz.

- Check out our YouTube Channel for amusing podcast outtakes and snippets set to video.

- We mention a few times that this is our second go at the podcast. We recorded one that we didn't love, so it was like 1am and of course we were like, "Let’s just scrap it and start over!!" so we're loopy and tired and its fun. It’s harder to be faux smart when you're dragging.

- Liz may or may not have accidentally let it slip to her mom that she was doing this. Mom will be very proud to hear me gush about Crystal's black coat and dissolve into incoherent mumbling when Natalia leans against the door frame.

- Dani prefers Crystal in the brown coat, and has applied for a fellowship to continue her “research” into the general hotness of Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia.

- Liz and Dani have broken up forever over their disagreement about Olivia's coats.

  1. Great podcast! Really enjoyed it!

I saw the whole Alan exchange as foreshadowing. In my opinion, the part where he says, "Sometimes we parents have to make very difficult decisions to protect our children," is totally setting up when Liv and Nat are going to have to make some tough decisions about their relationship vs. Emma and Rafe. I haven't read any spoilers to this effect, but the way the writers have been writing this story, that's the way I took it to mean. Every exchange in the s/l has meant something...there haven't been any throw away lines.

  5. Love it that you guys recognize the awesomness of JL's acting! It always bugs me a bit that people put Jessica in Crystall's shadow. She shines on her own!
Can't wait to see the girls at the end of the week...damn Otalia withdrawls...
Thanks for your insights, I so love to hear that i'm not the only one who overanalyze every little thing...

  6. SP- We agree that the writers don't throw away lines. Its weird. I still don't know how I feel about it...

Hybridstar- You're so sweet. Hope you enjoyed it. Report back.

Lynda- I wish you weren't working too. :)

Anon- I think you might be surprised at our capacity to over analyze every detail. We'd be in the mental hospital with Phillip if people listened to some of our conversations.

    XO Liz

  7. Liz/Dani,
I'm glad to know there is nothing sacred for you two...I admit, I did feel a bit guilty to enjoy the clothes talk as much as I did (heh, heh, are you the new guilty pleasure?). Major props on both Body Language and Voice Inflection - and don't forget Breathing. These two actress have so figured out how to fully inhabit these characters that even changes in breath have resonance.
And thanks for the props on JL (Mar 11 was a great clip to re-watch before she began her progression into pod Nat, there's so much emotion layered everywhere in those scenes.) And honestly, looking back on Liv's backstory, I didn't think CC could raise her game, but she completely has for this story - so its an unbelievable double-whammy between the two of them.
And Liz, did you have to lock Dani in the bathroom for something for mis-behavior, I could have sworn she was from the sound of her call.

Last but not least, I'm going to say January, not February - I have all sorts of theories about that.

Thanks for the great podcast#2, keep at it, and oh yeah, we wantz some outtakes. because I'm greedy that way.

  9. Dude, Boobookitty- the breathing. These women are so amazing in how completely they embody their characters. Every little movement and non movement is important. Dont get me started! What will your ring feature?
Nothing is sacred, we will mock everything / everyone, especially ourselves.
And if I was going to lock Dani in a room, it wouldnt be the bathroom. ;) No but really- we don't have any idea how to do what we're doing. lol She sounds more hollow because I record the podcast, and thats how Skype makes her sound. I don't know if there is a better way to do it? We both have good mics. We seriously had NO idea how to do any of this last Sat when we got this idea, so maybe theres a better way? I dont know.
Dani surprised me with that question. I have more feelings now that I've sat with it, they may or may not be shared at some point. Feel free to share yours though!
And outtakes? What like, the 7 1/2 min it took us to get the damn intro last week? Me letting it slip to my mom that I am so obsessed with a soap I now talk about it on the internet for fun? Us both completely dissolving into giggles and taunting each other around 4am on Sunday? Its coming my love, its coming...

And Mandi- you better stop. You're going to give us big(ger) heads and that just won't do! All the smart and witty is Dani, I just stand near her and take all the credit. But really about that cake thing- because google is failing me. :D

I'm glad you all liked it. We love you. XO Liz

  10. Great podcast! I laughed so much, especially about only looking at Olivia's chest to remember the transplant.LOL

I have to disagree with you, Liz about the dinner not being a date for two reasons.

    1. When Olivia asked Doris out for drinks and Doris asked if Oliva was asking her out, Olivia said drinks not dinner. Obviously, Olivia considers taking someone out to dinner, a date. They were out for dinner and Olivia did pay, so...

    2. In the Bizzie rules of dating, sex happens after the tenth date. We really, really, really, need this to count as a date, so we only have nine more to go. :D

  11. Good stuff, ladies! The perfect substitute drug for irresponsibly Otaliafree GL days...I am pretty sure I already developed a secondary addiction - because really, there is no overanalyzing of Otalia (or overpraising of JL's acting skills, or overappreciation of CC's allaround awesomeness), so keep it coming!

  12. More pod fun! Thanks! So glad you went back to the scene in the farmhouse after the almost wedding. I think it is pivotal to Natalia's readiness to move on and determination to take hold of newness.
Tossing the tiara said, "I SO don't want to be anybody's 'princess' anymore." Reflecting on the cake topper: "This sugary dream I've always had is going the way of unicorns, pink ponies, and Care Bears." It was her moment of transition.
And really.....does this woman of self reliance, independence, and, yes, spunk, really want all these people pledging to take care of her, keep her safe, and generally encapsulate her in bubble wrap? Please, somebody, let her be her full self--she deserves it.

One more (no, I guess I mean three more) classroom observations:
Emma's contrived "my friend, Natalia".....sole purpose of the line to show us Natalia's stricken look in response to being redefined out of the family, juxtaposed (note big word) with Olivia's equally mournful gaze at the contrived bulletin board, each facing family lost. Experience with them both the later joy at the return of "my two mommies."

Natalia's frustrated wordless voice catch when she's trying to explain that she "knows what it means..." (only on the second take).
Almost the most eloquent thing she lets be heard.

The gorgeous backward look, upon leaving, that says, "I am NOT walking away!" (ironically conveyed while walking away).

I just have to be quiet now.

  15. Y'all know I love your podcasts, so I'll refrain from gushing. I will say, though, that you've inspired me to pick up the blog I fairly abandoned last year, and to start by blogging about Otalia. If you're interested:

  16. Katheryn, by your account those two have been on dozens of dates! Get them in bed already!!

Technopag, We'll keep doing what we do as long as you guys keep bringing the awesome right to our doorstep! Thanks!!

Annika- Thanks for your observations. That look still kills me everytime. I am sooo Jessica's bitch.

Lynda- Im so glad you liked it. :) To be even in the same sentence as the eyes AND the dimples?

Snapper- I'm going to check it out in a bit. I'm currently procrastinating other stuffs.

  17. Just wanted to let you guys know that you are doing a great job with the podcasts. They are funny and insightful with a feisty attitude. And I do mean that in the most positive way. There are things that both of you spot during the Otalia scenes that I have missed. Of course, you know that means I will have to watch the episodes again and again and again. Not that it is such a toil and hardship to have to watch the scenes with the lovely Olivia and the beautiful Natalia over and over and over again. Cause you know, we don't like to spend time watching Otalia. No. Not this bunch.

  19. nice work again folks, you two are officially babes. i really enjoy the way you work off each other and your analysis is spot-on again. just one point. nat definitely smiled as she left the door, but i think she initially looked disappointed because she totally wanted liv to kiss her. it's in her eyes just after liv says "we say goodnight" and that pause and finger rub before she actually says it. liv pulled away from her attempt at a kiss the last time (even if semi-consciously), therefore i think nat is waiting for liv to make that move first. the moment was there but...

oh, and thanks for balancing the sound levels this time. in the first podcast i sometimes had to strain to hear liz while dani was yelling at me--made it tough to do the dishes.

  20. i think she initially looked disappointed because she totally wanted liv to kiss her

    TOTALLY!

To be just as fan-geeky as our Fearless Pod'ers:

Olivia Spencer, I can say confidently (on the basis of watching for a couple of weeks now *g*) has had a zillion people (guys) at her doorway: "Do you want to come in?" popped out almost without thinking.

    She then tried to reel it back (FYI, young'uns {*}: THE proposition line at a doorway is a "nightcap", NOT coffee!): not wanting this (glorious!) night to end, but not wanting to sound Ms. Heavy-Breathing either. Coffee? Oops, that sounds ridiculous. Latte? {Mutual crack-up at Liv's dial-back efforts}

But Nat, bless her (GORGEOUS, as the rest of her!) heart, heard the initial proposition line, and responded to THAT, not the dial-backs...

...and she was TEMPTED (not repulsed, not even frightened) by it! That is what Liv realized, and left her breathlessly "waiting to exhale".

However, Liv is still Liv: having received a turn-down (even if that turn-down was, in itself, MORE than she ever dreamed possible!), she knows how to turn, on a dime, into Ms. Hard-to-Get. She knew Nat was more-than-ready (on THIS night-of-all-nights) for a kiss, and ergo...

    ...DENIED!

"Always leave 'em wanting more": that's Our Liv!

Olivia Spencer SOOOO Got Her Groove Back this night.

It's a dance. An intricate---but ever more intimate---dance. Can't wait for more! ;-) [And lookin' forward to the next pod, Liz&Dani: you ROCK!]

{*} "Robert Bogue is 44 years old and Mandy Bruno is 27 years old." Ahem! Perhaps La Bruno merely realizes that NEITHER Rome---nor a Great Lover---was built in a day? Sheesh, Youth is wasted on... >;-/
